For November I choose writing. It took some thinking and justifying and waffling from “of course,” to “do I really have time?”. What pushed me towards signing up for NaNoWriMo was a new writing group that I joined last night, The Knight Writers. It was a group of 10 women who are in very different stages of writing. There were published authors, to people wanting to blog, to everything in between.
The best part was the encouragement of the group. So many of my observations about effective encouragement were present. The best part was after each person shared where they were in their writing projects, the group asked how they could support that particular writer. There was no judging of where the group thought they should be, it was taking everyone where they were and helping them move forward.
It reminded me of one of my favorite encouragement quotes in action.
“Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
NaNoWriMo it is! National Novel Writing Month for those of you not familiar with the term. My Encouragement book has been rolling around in my head for years. November will be my opportunity to get all my thoughts and more into a document.
I do a lot of self editing as I write, which leads me to think I am leaving a lot of great ideas in my head. So, forcing myself, in a nice way, to get all the thoughts out will be good. That leaves me December to edit out the extra stuff and be left with awesome material. It is kind of like digging for gold. Instead of filling my bucket with sand and water, I will fill my pages with ideas. Then instead of sifting out the sand and water, I will edit out the superfluous stuff and be left with my book. Just as the miners crossed over the Rocky Mountains for their chance at gold, I will type every day for my chance at a huge rough draft.
As for knitting, I will be enjoying my knitted items.
My felted slippers, my prayer shawl, and my Eleventh Hour blanket. The pattern is from Purl Soho and it is supper easy and super cozy:)
NaNoWriMo starts November 1st. It’s not too late, for more info click here.
